Students may request break housing during the winter break. The registration deadline is Monday, December 15th.
The West Virginia University Residence Halls are closed for Winter Break from Saturday, December 20th at 12 pm through Friday, January 9 at 12 pm. All students who have not registered in advance for Winter Break Housing must vacate their Residence Hall space by 12 pm on Saturday, December 20, and may not return to their Residence Hall space until Friday, January 9th, at 12 pm.
Students may register to stay in their rooms during the break period for an additional fee (residence hall contracts do not include the cost of room and board during official WVU break periods).
Winter Break Housing Options:
- First Week of Winter Break (Late Departure) - December 20th - December 27th (Check-Out Saturday, December 27th by 12 pm) - $175
- Last Week of Break (Return Early) - January 2nd - January 9th (Check-In after 12 pm on January 2nd) - $175
- Entire Winter Break - December 20th - January 9th - $450
If your travel arrangements cannot be accommodated by the options listed above (ex., short-term stays), we encourage you to explore local hotel options. Many search engines and travel booking sites have up-to-date hotel/motel information and pricing information. You may also view options through the Greater Morgantown Convention and Visitor's Bureau.
Register for Winter Break Housing
- Residence halls will close on Saturday, December 20th at 12pm and reopen on Friday, January 9th at 12pm.
- Advance registration is required for break housing. The registration deadline is Monday, December 15th. No refunds (partial or full) will be granted after the registration deadline or if a student registers and does not utilize the space during all or part of their registration period.
- Only current residents with existing housing contracts (2025-2026) are eligible for break housing.
- Services available during break periods are limited, as staffing will be significantly reduced.
Only those who register online and agree to the following terms and conditions will be allowed to stay in the residence halls during any WVU break period:
- There is an additional charge for break housing since housing contracts do not include official University break periods. Charges will be assessed to the student's WVU account. Full and/or partial refunds will not be issued for cancellations after December 15th (registration deadline) or if a registered student does not utilize the space during all or part of their registration period.
- Residents continue to be subject to all policies outlined in the University Student Code of Conduct and Residence Hall Community Standards of Conduct during the break period.
- To ensure everyone's safety, no guests are permitted during the break period.
- Dining halls will be closed during the break period.
- No linens are provided during the break period.
- Fitness centers are not open during the break period.
- Mail service and package delivery will not be available during the break period.
- Staffing in the Residence Halls will be limited during the break period.
