Select Your Room and Roommate

Find your room and your roommate

To find a roommate(s), first choose your space by completing the Housing Application in the Housing Portal. (You may select a space while self-selection is open.) Once you have selected a space (or been assigned if self-selection has closed), you will see the name(s) of your roommates/suite mates in the Application Status tab in the Housing Portal. If the other individual(s) have completed the optional profile, you will be able to learn more about them.

A friend and I want to live in the same room

If you have someone you wish to live with, you should plan to complete the Housing Application as quickly as possible once you have been admitted to WVU and paid your academic deposit.  Space availability is shown in "real time," so it's important that you encourage your preferred roommate to apply to WVU and pay their academic deposit early, too, so that they can complete the Housing Application.

We will not move someone from a space to accommodate your roommate(s) preference. Some halls fill very quickly, and while there is plenty of housing to accommodate all incoming students, there may not be a room with two (or more) spaces available to choose with your preferred roommate(s).

If you have a preferred housing space, we encourage  you to complete the Housing Application even If your preferred roommates(s) has not done so.

Find your room and roommate assignment

To find your room location and the name of your roommate in the Housing Portal (MyHousing), click on Application Status (upper right corner) or go to the Complete Application tab and scroll to the bottom. You can then contact your future roommate with a message sent through MyHousing.

Room selection process

What’s the best residence hall to live in? We often get that question and the answer depends on your preferences! Consider a Living-Learning Community - you'll meet people with similar interests and/or the same major. We have three distinct neighborhoods: Downtown, Evansdale and Sunnyside, each offering unique choices for housing, dining and recreational activities. Before you select your room, check out what each has to offer. Pictures, room dimensions, price and other frequently asked questions can be found for each of the residence halls.
