Substance free

Community for students interested in a substance-free living experience.

substance free

Substance-Free housing is a Living-Learning Community sponsored by University Housing and Residence Life and provides a living opportunity for both incoming first-year and returning students.

Students in this Living-Learning Community must commit that they (and their guests) will not possess or consume alcoholic beverages, smoking or tobacco products, or use illegal substances in the residence hall. University Housing and Residence Life strongly enforces expectations that all residence halls comply with all federal, state and University regulations related to the use or possession of alcohol and other drugs. Substance-Free rooms offer an additional measure of support for those who choose to live a lifestyle free of substances including but not limited to alcohol, cigarettes and other smoking materials as well as all illicit drugs. Substance-Free residents of the University are expected to adhere to this policy inside residence halls.

University Housing and Residence Life hold students under contract to higher community standards and members of the community are expected to hold their guest to these standards, too. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Bringing alcohol and/or illegal drugs into your room or the residence hall
  • The possession, consumption and/or distribution of alcohol/or illegal drugs in the residence halls
  • The possession and use of alcohol or drug paraphernalia
  • Returning to the residence hall room under the influence of alcohol and/or illegal drugs
  • Being documented or arrested for alcohol- or drug-related incidents by WVU officials
  • Tobacco use or possession of any kind within the residence halls
  • Creating a disruption or destroying property while under the influence of alcohol and/or illegal drugs

Where will I live?

  • This community is part of Lincoln Hall on Evansdale Residential Complex. Students will live in a suite-style space. Other amenities include high-speed internet, study rooms, and much more. Students will also have an opportunity to be involved in the larger residence hall community and will be able to participate in all events and activities that occur in the hall.
