Residential Colleges

What is a Residential College?

The residential colleges at WVU are based upon the Oxford College model of residential colleges. The goals of a residential college are to integrate formal learning with life outside the classroom, encourage intellectual curiosity and diversity, promote life long learning, and encourage members of the residential college to become active and engaged members of the larger community. This is accomplished through the transformation of the learning environment by increasing the opportunity for both formal and informal interaction with faculty members. Faculty members teach seminar courses in the residence hall as well as engage students in various discussion topics.

Residential colleges create a student-centered environment by involving both faculty and students, who serve as resident tutors, in the daily workings of the community. The faculty and resident tutors will challenge members of the residential community to grow as well as support the members in their efforts to navigate their lives and discover who they are as unique individuals. Faculty and resident tutors are available to assist the members with any academic or personal concerns that may arise over the course of the year.

While there are no special requirements, qualifications, GPAs, or majors to live in a residential college, admission is selective. Please click below to obtain the supplemental application.
