hallmovein

Dear Parents and Students:

We are only a week away from your formal arrival in Morgantown and already excitement fills the air. To our new students, we are thrilled to welcome you to your new home. To our returning students, we extend a warm welcome as you make the transition back to campus.

As you likely know, move-in day (Friday, Aug. 14) can cause traffic delays and congestion around Morgantown, and this year is especially challenging due to local road construction projects and detours along University and Beechurst avenues.

We recommend taking deep breaths and channeling your inner calmness and patience as we all get settled back on campus.

There will be signage as well as University Police officers and staff directing you to our various residence halls and assisting with the move-in process, especially those navigating to Summit and Honors halls where the road construction is heaviest.

For Summit and Honors halls, please follow these driving directions:

If traveling on I-79 North:

  • Use Exit 148 (toward Cumberland) and bear to the right to use Exit 1 (University Avenue Downtown).
  • Get into the left lane and make a left turn at the light.
  • Travel approximately 4.2 miles staying on US-119 North which merges with University Avenue then Beechurst Avenue.
  • Turn right onto Third Street. (BeechView Apartments are across the street.)
  • Travel approximately 0.1 mile and turn right onto Grant Avenue.
  • Continue on Grant Avenue to Summit and Honors halls.

If traveling on I-79 South:

  • Use Exit 155 (West Virginia University) and take a left off the exit.
  • Merge into the right lane when the road becomes two lanes.
  • The road will bear slightly right becoming US-19 South/Monongahela Boulevard as you pass through the second light.
  • Travel approximately 2.8 miles staying on US-19 South with merges with Beechurst Avenue.
  • Turn left onto Third Street. (BeechView Apartments are across the street.)
  • Travel approximately 0.1 mile and turn right onto Grant Avenue.
  • Continue on Grant Avenue to Summit and Honors halls.

If traveling on I-68 West:

  • Take Exit 1 (University Ave. Downtown)
  • After exiting, use the left lane and make a left turn at the light.
  • Travel approximately 4.1 miles staying on US-119 North which merges with University Avenue then Beechurst Avenue.
  • Turn right onto Third Street. (BeechView Apartments are across the street.)
  • Travel approximately 0.1 mile and turn right onto Grant Avenue.
  • Continue on Grant Avenue to Summit and Honors halls. And, don’t be surprised if you see President Gordon Gee and his senior leadership team roaming the halls and offering to help you carry your belongings inside. Everyone gets into the act at WVU on move-in day.

Parents Reception

If you are not too exhausted after the big move on Friday, parents and families are invited to the Erickson Alumni Center, One Alumni Drive—located just off University Avenue—from 4-6 p.m. for a “I Survived Move-in” Reception. There will be light refreshments and an opportunity to network with other families and with Mountaineer Parents Club staff. We hope you will drop by!
